Accessibility Consulting

My approach as a consultant is to stay consistent with your business or organizational values and strategic plan while providing solution-based strategies for gaps in accessibility. I want to teach you the tools to continue this work so there are systems in place that go beyond ADA recommendations for true equitable experiences.

Pricing: $100/hr

  • If you are planning a new structure in your outdoor space or expanding an existing playground or park, I encourage you to look beyond basic ADA requirements—this is truly the bare minimum in accessibility. I will help you consider ways for more equitable and joyful experiences for people with disabilities in your spaces. I also provide Mobility Assessments for existing trailheads and outdoor spaces, helping your company or land management team find ways to improve accessibility and make these areas more inclusive. I use a specific mobility audit tool developed by people with disabilities in the Northern Colorado area. And remember, just like how sidewalk cut outs help those with strollers or suitcases, accessible options help more than just people with disabilities. These recommendations could increase access and use of your space overall!

  • To further advance your strategic plan toward inclusivity, I can provide an audit of your current and proposed programming and events in terms of accessibility for those with mobility, cognitive, and sensory disabilities. My approach is to tier the possibilities for improvement from urgent and necessary to long-term and aspirational. My experience with No Barriers USA and Cycling Without Age has provided a solid foundation in volunteer recruitment, marketing/promotions, community relationship building, fundraising, participant recruitment, program logistics, and outdoor program planning/implementation. In all of these categories, I will make sure that my Key Principles and your values are foundational to further program development.

Speaking Engagements

With over a decade of experience in the medical field in addition to my work in the outdoor industry, I can use my integrated knowledge and skillsets to customize a presentation that addresses your business’ or organization’s specific needs. These efforts have historically included contextual demographic information, communication strategies, pre-event marketing, equipment recommendations, etc. Classes along these lines can establish a framework and unified language to start the process of increasing accessibility in your business or organization.

Pricing:

  • Single Class $800

  • Accessibility Series (3 classes) $1850

  • This course is Accessibility 101 and designed to develop a foundational understanding of accessibility principles to start identifying and addressing barriers to recreation for your organization’s programs, trails and facilities. It includes a historical perspective on relevant legislation, an overview on different types of disabilities, and general strategies to address barriers and foster inclusivity.

  • This Course dives deeper into the specific barriers by walking the class through the experience of someone with disabilities attempting to recreate through your organization or facilities: from accessing the website and programming forms, all the way to being on the trail itself. This will include online information access, transportation limitations, physical barriers, sign design, and more. We will discuss solutions with recommended accessible standards. Lastly, we will finish with a quick audit as a group of facility or trailhead using the Mobility Audit Tool.

  • This Course is designed to prepare organizations to develop new accessible programming by providing a holistic understanding of program development. We will discuss relationship building, emergency action plans, inclusion criteria, staffing expertise, adaptive equipment recommendations, and more. We will finish with an audit as a group for one of your organization’s programs to highlight the challenges for people with disabilities and ways to increase inclusion.

  • This course is designed to be completed in the field, ideally at your facility or local trailhead. It will include practical exercises, simulations, and demonstrations to reinforce learning and allow participants to experience accessibility challenges firsthand. There are options to include specialized adaptive equipment for better understanding of user experiences. We will also complete a formal audit using the Mobility Audit Tool.

Every Body Outside Consulting delivers an exceptional training experience. Enhancing the accessibility of public lands can be a challenge, particularly with staffing and budget constraints. We initially struggled to determine where to begin. However, Kelsey’s Accessibility Series training effectively breaks down trail accessibility concepts into manageable steps and hands-on experiences. She offers a realistic perspective on creating meaningful change and guides agencies in developing plans that align with both their values and strategic goals. Our staff members who participated, left the training inspired to approach their responsibilities with an accessibility-focused mindset. The training was so well received that we plan to offer it again for new team members. We are grateful to Kelsey for sharing her expertise and passion, grounded in a deep understanding of how public land agencies operate
